Chapter 10: It's a Trap!

Shots rang out beside Alexa as the innocent bystanders occupying the platform all screamed and ran for cover. Removing her weapon, she pulled from around the corner and began firing wildly in the men’s direction, watching as they scattered behind stationary objects themselves. Gradually she walked backwards, down toward the next column, placing her back against it as a black suit stood up on the left side of the stairwell.

He shot rapidly toward her, knocking bits of cement and plaster from the wall onto her head as she ducked for cover. From what she could see, the man was using a Ruger SR9B Semi-Automatic pistol. It had a 17-round magazine capability and he’d already fired at her 12 times. Alexa counted the next five shots, held her breath and jumped up returning five of her own, being sure to stop before her gun clicked.

Chapter 09: Spies Like Her

“Don’t shoot!” The frightened man shrunk lower to the floor with his hands up, hoping to keep Alexa from using the weapon she had aimed at his head. “Please! Just…p-put the gun down.”

“No chance. Who are you?”

“I’m a-a friend.”

“Wrong answer!” the sound of the gun cocking rattled him and he squealed and shook nearly dropping the bag in his hand.

“No, no wait p-please! A!”

“What did you just call me?”

Chapter 08: Dirty Little Secrets

“Oh my god!” Alexa jumped up suddenly, throwing the covers to the floor as she pulled out of Gavin’s arms. “I’m late! Where are my clothes?”

“What?” Gavin peeled one eye open at a time, watching a frantic Alexa zip around his apartment, gathering up her belongings.

“Keys, keys, they’re here somewhere. Fuck!”

Chapter 07: Sins of a Killer

“I’m sorry about that. I guess I just sorta lost it,” Gavin remarked as he unlocked his front door. Alexa stepped inside his dark apartment and he moved around her to get to the light switch. “I’ve always had it in for that guy. He really rubs me the wrong way, you know?”

“Yeah. I can see how that could happen.”

“He has no respect for women; no respect for my dad to treat his place of work like some open-all-night brothel. My Dad won’t fire him because he’s a great attorney; he fears losing him to the other side. Then again, with you here now, I don’t think it would be a huge loss.”
